Abstract

Sigumuru Village is a village located in the West Angkola District, South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra Province. One of the livelihoods of the community in this village is cultivating catfish. However, catfish cultivation carried out by the community is not optimal. The problems faced by the Sigumuru Village community in cultivating catfish are management issues, namely the lack of skills in processing catfish into processed products and production issues, namely the low income of farmers in selling catfish. Therefore, efforts are needed to overcome these problems. The PKM team offered a solution in the form of implementing socialization of diversification of processed catfish-based products such as: pecal catfish, catfish meatballs, and catfish satay as well as their marketing. The purpose of this activity is to increase the knowledge and skills of the Sigumuru Village community, especially catfish farmers, in processing catfish into processed food products to improve their standard of living. The offered solution is expected to increase the nutritional value and selling value of catfish and provide added value to the product. The methods used in this activity were location surveys, socialization, demonstrations, marketing, and monitoring. Participants in this activity were 12 personnel from the Sigumuru Jaya Fish Cultivation Group (FCG). The duration of the activity was 8 months. The evaluation method was carried out using a pre-test, post-test, preference questionnaire, and monitoring questionnaire. The results of this PKM activity showed an increase in community empowerment outcomes, namely: an increase in knowledge of 92.5%, an increase in skills of 95%, an increase in business sustainability of 87.5%, and an increase in income of 90%. The results of the preference questionnaire showed that the majority of people (50%) chose pecal lele as the most popular processed catfish product because it tastes good (37.5%). The results of the monitoring questionnaire showed an assessment score of 75. This means that the success of this PKM activity reached 88.24%. Pecal lele is the most popular food in the community. Thus, the PKM team recommends that target partners further increase pecal lele production to increase their income and business sustainability.
