Abstract

The effectiveness of the storytelling method is not only known from the increasing ability of students to understand reading content, but can be seen from the teacher's ability to apply the storytelling method. The teacher's role in applying storytelling methods to improve students' ability to understand reading content is very necessary, so teachers must have competencies, namely a set of knowledge, skills and behavior that teachers must possess, internalize and master in carrying out their professional duties. The data collection technique in this research uses documentation and observation studies. The results of the data collected show that the effectiveness of the storytelling method in improving students' ability to understand reading content in class 2 of SDN 1 Picungpugur is that the role of the teacher is very necessary in managing learning which has various abilities in terms of student understanding, the teacher is also a driver and motivates students to always enthusiastic about learning.
