Jambi School Football League as a Sports Management Learning Laboratory: NVivo Analysis of MCM, Match Observations, and Student Reflections

Abstract

Study purpose. This study aims to analyze the Jambi School Football League (JSFL) as an authentic learning laboratory for Sports Management students through Match Coordination Meeting (MCM)/Zoom, match observations, post-event interviews, student reflections, and match evaluation documents.

Materials and methods. The study used a qualitative descriptive case study approach. Participants were seven fourth-semester students who were involved in JSFL as match analysts, event implementation supporters, publication and documentation personnel, and match management observers. Data were obtained from MCM documentation, four match observation reports, seven student interviews, student reflections, and match evaluation documents. Analysis was conducted using NVivo through open coding, theme nodes, sub-theme nodes, hierarchy charts, word clouds, project maps, and the formulation of an event-based learning model.

Results. The NVivo analysis generated six main themes: Pre-Event/MCM, Match Observation, Event Governance, Student Reflection, Sports Management Learning, and SDGs Relevance. The findings show that JSFL supports a learning process that moves from initial coordination and field observation to reflection and the formation of communication, cooperation, problem-solving, time management, responsibility, and professionalism competencies.

Conclusions. JSFL can be positioned as a Sports Management learning laboratory because it provides authentic event-based experiences that connect classroom theory with the practice of sports event governance.
