The management of inventory in higher education institutions often faces challenges such as inconsistent data, delays in reporting, and vulnerability to errors in manual recording. This research proposes the development of a web-based inventory information system designed to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and transparency. The system was built using the CodeIgniter 4 framework and MySQL database, applying Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) to regulate user privileges and First In First Out (FIFO) to optimize inventory distribution. The development process followed the Rapid Application Development (RAD) approach, which emphasizes fast prototyping and user involvement.
The results show that the system provides customized dashboards for administrators, faculty/department units, and students. RBAC ensures that each role has limited and secured access to the system, while FIFO prioritizes inventory usage based on the order of arrival, minimizing the risk of stock accumulation. Functionality tests using black box testing confirmed that all modules, including inventory management, loan submission, damage reporting, and stock notifications, performed effectively and reliably.
In conclusion, the proposed system successfully addresses the weaknesses of manual inventory management by providing a secure, efficient, and transparent digital solution. Furthermore, it demonstrates the potential to serve as a strategic tool in supporting decision-making processes within higher education. Future development may focus on integrating mobile applications and cloud-based technologies to improve flexibility and scalability.
